« A roof for two » This is a challenge of two unique houses grouped. A family members from Aix-en-Provence dwelling abroad but very hooked up to its mom land needed to develop two up to date residences in a position to accommodate all or portion of this spouse and children. Two independent homes responding to a flexibility of uses: partial profession, partial or complete rent, long-lasting or seasonal, long term extensions…

The architectural reaction is composed in proposing a big simple and homogeneous roof in a position to unify the distinct and independent parts of the method. a « determine able » at the internet site scale that residences both of those dwellings and their long term developments. The imaginary evoked is that of a protective shelter, a “widespread roof” for the full relatives (a few generations beneath the identical roof). Shelter, unify and guard to free the architecture and its makes use of, this is the universe of the project. The fruitful ambiguity of the challenge lies in the dialogue in between this out-of-scale figure of the roof and the cost-free splitting of the volumes it houses, explicitly referring to a domestic scale. The marriage among the inside of and the outside the house seems to be right here for a singular expression by the fractionation and addition of volumes. Residences are produced of diversified areas, simple volumetric game titles (stacking, juxtaposition, change) ready to generate circumstances and varied spaces questioning the limits of the inside of and outdoors.

The format and composition come from a mindful studying of the site and its valley condition oriented from East to West. Architectural expression is a reaction to the opening, clearing and light-weight features of the web page. The roof rises to the West to accompany and enhance the framing on the massive landscape. It homes the major house on two levels. In the central part it is lowered to break the scale and total linearity. It homes the features of reception and parking in outdoor areas amongst two, all over a dry garden. Eventually, in the East, the roof opens once more to seem for the favorable orientation of the apartment and to mark its independence in comparison to the most important dwelling.
